Spurs to enter McKennie race

Tottenham Hotspur are set to enter the race to sign Weston McKennie from Juventus, according to Calciomercato.

The 23-year-old USA international rose through the ranks at the Dallas Academy, before joining the Under-19 side at Schalke 04 in 2016. Juventus signed him on an initial loan in 2020, a deal which was made permanent this summer. In all competitions, McKennie has represented the Old Lady on a total of 53 occasions so far, scoring six goals and contributing three assists. Out of the seven Serie A matches Juventus have played this term, he was named to start in four, after missing the opening-day draw against Udinese through suspension and having sat out the AC Milan draw on September 19th on the bench. He was brought on as a substitute in the win over Sampdoria a week la…

Bale wants to stay put

Gareth Bale wants to stay at Real Madrid this summer, according to Spanish TV network La Sexta.

The player who arrived to Santiago Bernabeu from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for a world-record fee at the time has been a subject of speculation throughout his time in the Spanish capital. Naturally, given the size of the transfer and the fact that he was coming in off the back of a fantastic last season in north London, the expectations were huge. He never managed to secure the status of the team s main star with Cristiano Ronaldo in the mix of course, and injuries often hampered his contribution on the pitch, but his spectacular goals have reeled in a number of trophies for the Spanish giants over the course of the last six years; not least the 2014 Copa Del Rey and the 2018 Champio…

Saudi Arabia v Egypt: El Hadary eyes history in dead rubber

Both teams have already been eliminated from Russia 2018 but a World Cup record could tumble when Egypt take on Saudi Arabia.

Mohamed Salah s return from his shoulder injury could not avert a 3-1 loss to hosts Russia in St Petersburg on Tuesday, even though the Liverpool star netted a consolation from the penalty spot.

On the back of a last-gasp 1-0 loss to Uruguay on the opening match day, it left the Pharaohs with only pride to play for against a Saudi Arabia side who salvaged some by going down via the same slender scoreline to La Celeste – a vast improvement on their 5-0 humiliation versus Russia in the curtain raiser.

The goalkeeper against whom Saudi Arabia will try to score their first goal of the competition will provide the main source of intrigue in…

Aguero reveals Guardiola struggles and five-year knee woe

Sergio Aguero concedes his early days under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City were not easy but the striker hopes his manager has helped to put five years of knee soreness behind as the 2018 World Cup approaches.

Aguero became City s all-time record goalscorer this season and was once again a key figure as the club claimed a third Premier League title since his arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

The 29-year-old finished an injury-curtailed campaign with 30 goals in all competitions and back in position as Guardiola s first-choice striker.

Things have not always run so smoothly for Aguero under the Catalan, who demanded a greater all-round contribution from the Argentina star last season and dropped him in favour of Brazil youngster Gabriel Jesus.

Should Paul Pogba return to Manchester United?

Why should Pogba return to Man Utd? / Image via just-football.com

Ser Alex Ferguson was an old school manager.

Military discipline came before talent and quality, David Beckham was the first one to feel it first-hand.

However, the methods Fergie and his clubs used to lure young Pogba from Le Havre in 2009, were the exact ones that were used when the French starlet was departing for Juventus and the legendary Scottish manager had no right to feel angry or disappointed.

In both cases the player and his agent were offered high sums of money, but Paul Pogba also had a personal agenda with the latter as he was left disillusioned over the prospect of breaking into the Manchester United’s first team.

Instead of waiting for his shot and working his way…

Olympics hosts France crash out as Brazil and Germany reach last four

France s Olympic dream came to a halt as they lost 1-0 to Brazil on Saturday.

Gabi Portilho s 82nd-minute goal proved decisive in Nantes as Brazil claimed a place in the semi-finals.

Matters could have been vastly different for France had Sakina Karchaoui converted an early penalty, but she fluffed her lines from 12 yards.

Brazil will face Spain in the last four, while the other semi-final will see Germany take on the United States.

Germany drew 0-0 with defending champions Canada after 120 minutes of action in Marseille.

But Ashley Lawrence and Adriana Leon saw their penalties saved by Ann-Katrin Berger, who subsequently stepped up to slot in the crucial spot-kick as Germany secured a 4-2 shootout victory.

Bundesliga is always finished by April – Lahm wants Bayern challengers

Philipp Lahm wants to see a Bundesliga title race because he feels the gulf between Bayern Munich and the rest is not good for the competition.

Bayern have won the title in each of the last six seasons, with 10 points as close as any side has come to toppling Germany s most successful team since Borussia Dortmund were victorious in 2011-12.

In the same period, the Bavarian club have won the title by as many as 21 and 25 points and their former captain Lahm – who retired in 2017 – wants to see more competition at the top of the table.

It is important for the health of the Bundesliga that there is competition, the World Cup winner told Marca.

The goal rush continues – Ronaldo´s phenomenal Real Madrid career in numbers

Cristiano Ronaldo s extended contract at Real Madrid is likely to result in the three-time Ballon d Or winner ending his top-level career at the Santiago Bernabeu, while being awful news for defences across Spain and Europe.

Madrid confirmed the 31-year-old will sign a deal running until June 2021 on Monday, giving him the opportunity to continue a goalscoring return that is unparalleled in the club s illustrious history.

Here, courtesy of Opta, we take a look at the stats behind the superstar.

Ronaldo s 33 goals in 35 games marked an explosive start to life in the Spanish capital in 2009-10, but that return appears somewhat paltry alongside what followed.

His 53 in 54 games across all competitions in the following campaign began an on-going run of break…

´The dream can wait a little while´ – Hugo Sanchez believes Mbappe could still join Madrid

Kylian Mbappe could fulfil his dream of playing for Real Madrid in the future and chose to remain at Paris Saint-Germain due to political issues , according to former Los Blancos forward Hugo Sanchez.

Mbappe had been widely expected to join Madrid on a free transfer before the 2018 World Cup winner elected to sign a blockbuster three-year extension to remain with PSG last month.

That decision irked senior figures at Madrid, with president Florentino Perez telling El Chiringuito the striker was already forgotten after Carlo Ancelotti s men won a 14th Champions League title last month.

LaLiga have also gotten involved in the saga, with the league s president Javier Tebas lodging a complaint about PSG s spending with UEFA, accusing the Parisians of seeking to destro…

Lauren James stars as England crush China to reach last 16 of Women’s World Cup

Two goals and three assists from Lauren James led a revived England attack and ensured the Lionesses secured top spot in Group D with a thumping 6-1 victory over China at the Women’s World Cup.

Alessia Russo opened her account for the tournament after four minutes while Lauren Hemp and James made it three by the halfway point, with James seeing another chalked off following a VAR check in stoppage time at Adelaide’s Hindmarsh Stadium.

Wang Shuang clawed one back with a spot-kick after the break, but strikes from substitute Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly assured the Lionesses of a dominant victory in front of 13,497 in the stands.
